WHO ME? A HOLY PRIEST!
by Marjorie Truesdale

"And you will be my kingdom of priests, my holy nation." Exodus 19:6

"You are a kingdom of priests, God's holy nation." "You are God's royal priests,
who offer the spiritual sacrifices that please Him." 1 Peter 2:5, 9

"He (Jesus) has made us His kingdom and His priests who serve before God His Father." Revelation 1:6

As I have read and re-read the above verses, I have questioned "How can I, Marjorie, be a royal priest from a holy nation?" The verses from 1 Peter clearly include me.

A book study which answered many questions was A Woman's Heart, God's Dwelling Place by Beth Moore. Her book triggered more study about The Old Testament Tabernacle as well as the requirements of the priests. As I walked myself into The New Testament, I saw references to what God expected of me.

I put together a brief summary with the parallel between the Old Testament Priest and what my personal role needs to look like. Below is an account of a National Day of Prayer event, May 5, 2011, which was inspired by this study.

Praying as Priests in the Tabernacle

A large fellowship hall was sectioned off into three distinct areas, each representing an area of the Old Testament Tabernacle. The Outer Court featured a crude cross draped with red, replacing the Altar. The prayer event started here, with the blowing of a shofar, followed by a time of personal confession based on the Ten Commandments. At the conclusion, attendees wrote personal prayers of repentance and place them in the Lever, represented by a large silver bowl. Everyone was then invited to be anointed by a Messianic Rabbi or the Minister before proceeding into the Holy Place.

This room had a large candelabrum representing the Menorah, the Table of the Presence with pita bread,
and a large bowl on a pedestal representing the Bowl
of Incense. Prayer points were led by presenters, at
the end of each topic there was prayer in small groups, and worship music concluded the segment. This time concluded with the opportunity to write a personal request on a gold colored piece of paper and put it
in the Bowl of Incense.

Attendees then moved into the Holy of Holies. The only light in the room was a spotlight directly over a life size model of the Ark of the Covenant. Activity in this area was the singing of hymns as well as contemporary worship music. We reluctantly closed the worship after 40 minutes in the Holy of Holies. This was definitely a dress rehearsal for Heaven!

The Priesthood of the Believer

"And you will be my kingdom of priests, my holy nation." Exodus 19:6

"You are a kingdom of priests, God's holy nation." "You are God's royal priests,
who offer the spiritual sacrifices that please Him." 1 Peter 2:5, 9

"He (Jesus) has made us His kingdom and His priests who serve before God His Father." Revelation 1:6

The O.T. Priest

•   Was born into the tribe of Levites.
•   Wore specific garments made from linen.
•   Confessed his own sin and was cleansed by sacrificing
     a perfect animal.

Duties
•   Lead in worship by singing.
•   Assisted others with their sin offerings.
•   Intercede before the Lord on behalf of the people.

Ezekiel 44:15-16, 23-24
15“However, the Levitical priests... will serve as my ministers. They will stand in my presence and offer the fat and blood of the sacrifices, says the Sovereign Lord. 16 They alone will enter my sanctuary and approach my table to serve me. They will fulfill all my requirements."

23 They will teach my people the difference between what is holy and what is common, what is ceremonially clean and unclean. 24“They will serve as judges to resolve any disagreements among my people. Their decisions must be based on my regulations. And the priests themselves must obey my instructions and decrees at all the sacred festivals, and see to it that the Sabbaths are set apart as holy days.

Ezekiel 43:12
"And this is the basic law of the Temple: absolute holiness! The entire top of the mountain where the Temple is built is holy. Yes, this is the basic law of the Temple."

The N. T. Priest

•   Is born again into God's family.
•   Is clothed in the righteousness of Jesus, will wear
     white linen in Heaven.
•   Confesses his own sin and is cleansed by the blood
     of Jesus.

Expectations
•   To be a worshiper
•   To make disciples, teaching them to obey.
•   Intercedes for others, for our country, for the world.

Hebrews 9:11
"So Christ has now become the High Priest...
so that we can worship the living God.

Matthew 28:19-20
"Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.”

John 15:16
"You didn’t choose me. I chose you.
I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit,"

Colossians 3:16-17
"Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom He gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father."

1 Peter 15-16
"But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, 'You must be holy because I am holy.'"

Tabernacle Prayer

The Tabernacle (Exodus 25-27) was a replica of heaven on earth. All items also represent an aspect of prayer.

It is reported that Pastor David Yonggi Cho, Seoul, South Korea, uses this very model to pray every day.

OUTER COURT
The Brazen Altar - The Cross.
Entering the Tabernacle, the priests immediately saw a bleeding animal upon the altar of brass. This is a picture
of Jesus upon the cross. As we come to the cross, we acknowledge the sacrifice of Jesus for our sins.

The Laver - Washing / Cleansing.
A mirrored basin was filled with water. The priests would see their reflection as they washed. We need to ask
God to show us sin, we repent of it and ask for His cleansing.

The priest could only enter the Holy Place as a clean, forgiven individual.

THE HOLY PLACE
        The Candlestick - Holy Spirit.
The seven branches of the candle stick stand for the seven aspects of the Holy Spirit from Isaiah 11:2, Spirit of
the Lord, wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge, and fear of the Lord. Pray for fresh anointing of the
Holy Spirit and His empowerment of the above traits to grow in your life today.

The Table of Showbread - The Word.
God provided fresh manna for each day of the Exodus. We also need fresh revelation from the Spiritual Bread
each day. Ask God to nourish your spirit as you spend time in The Word today.

The Altar of Incense - Worship
This is a place of prayer and worship. It is specifically mentioned as a place in Heaven in Revelation 8:3-4.

THE HOLY OF HOLIES
       Mercy Seat - Intercession
Only the High Priest could enter once a year to offer a sacrifice for the atonement of Israel's sins. At the actual
time of the death of Jesus on the cross, the curtain was torn between the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies, from
top to bottom. At His death, He said "It is finished". Today, Jesus is interceding for us at Father's Throne,
Hebrews 7:24-25. In the Holy of Holies, Hebrews 10:19-22, we can pray for ourselves, for our own family, friends,
church, the nation, and other needs we know of. Ask the Holy Spirit to join your prayers to those of Jesus.

When God told Moses to make the Tabernacle, He gave very specific instructions for every detail, Exodus 25:9. In Hebrews we read that the priests would serve in a sanctuary "that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven" (Hebrews 8:5) We found the drawings below show this incredible relationship.

As an example and as a place to pray, in August, 2010 we set up a small Tabernacle. A guided tour is on our website www.hamw.org and click on Videos and click on "Tour of the Tabernacle".
